Photoacoustic characteristics of carbon-based infrared absorbers

نویسندگان

چکیده

We present an experimental comparison of photoacoustic responsivities common highly absorbing carbon-based materials. The was carried out with parameters relevant for power detectors and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy: we covered a broad wavelength range from the visible red to far (633 nm 25 ?m) regime low acoustic frequencies (< 1 kHz). investigated materials include candle soot-based coating, black paint coating two different carbon nanotube coatings. Of these, low-cost soot absorber produced clearly highest response over entire measurement range.

Synchrotron infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy

The use of synchrotron radiation ~SR! as a farand mid-infrared source in the measurement of photoacoustic Fourier transform infrared spectra of solids is demonstrated for the first time in this work. Initial experiments were performed at beamline U10A at the National Synchrotron Light Source, Brookhaven National Laboratory. For synchrotron photoacoustic spectroscopy to be feasible, it must yiel...

Mathematical Modeling in Photoacoustic Imaging of Small Absorbers

This paper is devoted to mathematical modelling in photo-acoustic imaging of small absorbers. We propose a new method for reconstructing small absorbing regions inside a bounded domain from boundary measurements of the induced acoustic signal. We also show the focusing property of the backpropagated acoustic signal. Indeed, we provide two different methods for locating a targeted optical absorb...

Carbon nanohorns-based nanofluids as direct sunlight absorbers.

The optimization of the poor heat transfer characteristics of fluids conventionally employed in solar devices are at present one of the main topics for system efficiency and compactness. In the present work we investigated the optical and thermal properties of nanofluids consisting in aqueous suspensions of single wall carbon nanohorns. The characteristics of these nanofluids were evaluated in ...

Near-infrared light photoacoustic ophthalmoscopy

We achieved photoacoustic ophthalmoscopy (PAOM) imaging of the retina with near-infrared (NIR) light illumination. A PAOM imaging system with dual-wavelength illumination at 1064 nm and 532 nm was built. We compared in vivo imaging results of both albino and pigmented rat eyes at the two wavelengths. The results show that the bulk optical absorption of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is on...

All-Silicon Ultra-Broadband Infrared Light Absorbers

Absorbing infrared radiation efficiently is important for critical applications such as thermal imaging and infrared spectroscopy. Common infrared absorbing materials are not standard in Si VLSI technology. We demonstrate ultra-broadband mid-infrared absorbers based purely on silicon. Broadband absorption is achieved by the combined effects of free carrier absorption, and vibrational and plasmo...
